Cultural Contexts of AI – Week 10

Reflection Overview

This week consisted of racial and cultural contexts for viewing artificial intelligence and its decision making. Furthermore, the realistic capabilities of bots by comparison to humans was discussed by comparing computer-generated art to those man-made.

Creative Uses for AI

My experimentation with artificial intelligence text-to-image generation truly began with Aphantasia and has led me to tinkering more recently with WOMBO Dream — a mobile AI driven application — as well as Disco Diffusion v5.

Bot or Not?

As an individual already antiquated with artificial intelligence and computer-generated content, I wasn’t surprised to see myself rank highly on the quiz, though I was surprised to see that I achieved first place by a decent margin. My strategy for the Kahoot consisted primarily of over-thinking each question and thinking in a psychological manner, which at times made me get seemingly simple questions incorrect. It’s truly amazing to see what artificial intelligence is capable of, and its ability to become confused with man-made artifacts continues to leave me in awe.
